Top 5 Stories from Premier League Matchweek 15
It was a great weekend in the Premier League, so let’s go over the top stories.
1. Manchester United, Arsenal have potential Match of the Season
Commentary called it the Match of the Season. From the first minute, it’s hard to disagree. United captain Antonio Valencia kicked things off in the 4th minute. Jesse Lingard continued the attack in the 11th and United went into the half up 2-0. Arsenal were relentless. Even going into the half they attacked back and their effort paid off early in the second half. Jesse Lingard finished them off in the middle of the half to get a brace. Paul Pogba was sent off late for a hard tackle and has been given a three match ban in EFL competitions. The Man of the Match was United goalkeeper David De Gea who had 14 saves in the game. United remain 2nd while Arsenal drop to 5th.
2. Liverpool destroy Brighton 5-1
With Liverpool now back on track, this was one of their biggest matches to show they’ll contend for the title again. Roberto Firmino put in a brace performance, with Philippe Coutinho giving two assists. Liverpool rise to 4th while Brighton drop to 12th.
3. Eden Hazard brace helps Chelsea to 3-1 win
Newcastle kicked things off with a goal from Dwight Gayle in the 12th minute. Eden Hazard responded in the 21st minute and Alvaro Morata in the 33rd. Hazard finished things off with a penalty scored in the 74th minute. Chelsea remain in 3rd while Newcastle dropped to 15th.
4. David Silva scores late to give Manchester City 2-1 win
Going up against West Ham at home, it was a shocker to see the Hammers up 1-0 at halftime against the top team. City defender Nicolas Otamendi tied the game up in the 57th minute. David Silva scored the winner in the 83rd minute from a great passing assist from Kevin DeBruyne. City remain atop the table while West Ham drop to 19th.
5. Spurs continue to drop points with draw against Watford
Both goals were scored in the first half. Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez was sent off for a red card forcing Tottenham to play defensive for the remainder of the game. The Spurs have acquired a lackluster two points since mid-November. Despite the draw, the Spurs did rise to 6th, while Watford remain in 8th position.
Next weekend is a big derby weekend! We have a London Derby between West Ham and Chelsea, and the first legs of the Merseyside Derby and Manchester Derby. These fixtures and many will start Saturday.
