Top 5 Stories from Premier League Matchweek 7
It was quite the weekend in the Premier League and there was a surprising Match of the Week as the matchup didn’t seem to be worth noting, but quite the opposite. Let’s take a look at the weekend’s action.
1. Hazard dazzles against Liverpool
Though the match ended in a draw it was a part two to a much bigger story. Liverpool and Chelsea met earlier in the week in a Carabao Cup match that sent Liverpool out of the competition. Hazard during the cup match scored one of the goals of the competition with a dribbling spectacle coupled with a screamer of a goal. The Premier League set up the same stage for the Belgian star. Hazard once again put together a brilliant goal that stunned the Liverpool defense.
2. West Ham upsets Man United for Match of the Week
Despite the game taking place in London Stadium, United were still favored to win the match because of West Ham’s poorer league performances. What took place might finally cost Jose Mourinho his job as Manchester United manager. West Ham put a 3-1 beating on the Red Devils where they exploited the weaknesses in United’s defense. It was a boost for the Hammers to try to salvage their season and make a run.
3. Sigurdsson scores a brace in 3-0 win for Everton
Putting on a strong performance at home, Everton righted the ship for a much-needed three points. The Iceland winger put on a strong performance in a position most suited for Richarlison being the younger player. For Sigurdsson it wasn’t even a factor when it came to age.
4. Arsenal beat Watford 2-0
For Watford, results like this hurt their chances deeply of a European spot. They’ve had such success so far, but when it comes to the strong clubs of the league, especially the mainstay ones, it’s too tough a challenge. The goals came late in the second half, with an own goal in the 81st minute and Mesut Ozil in the 83rd minute to finish the game.
5. Man City beat Brighton 2-0
It was simple business for City, as Brighton didn’t pose much of a threat. Raheem Sterling scored in the first half and Sergio Augero scored in the second half.
