To say the deck is stacked against Mid Tennessee would be an understatement.  15 seeds are 7-117 all time vs. 2 seeds.  Now, three of those victories have come since 2012, with Florida Gulf Coast and its memorable run being the most recent in 2013  (and, they are the only 15 seed to escape the second round as well).  The team they are facing, however, is not the plodding Georgetown team FGCU faced in 2013.  The Michigan State Spartans are probably one of the strongest 2 seeds in tournament history.  Before the tournament MSU was the 2nd ranked team in the nation and was playing as well as anyone.  The selection committee punished MSU for failing to capture the regular season Big Ten crown by relegating the to the 2 seed line.  Armed with Wooden Award candidate (and favorite) Denzel Valentine, these Spartans are too much for Mid Tennessee State.

The bigger thing to keep in mind Spartan fans is to not settle this year.  This team has the talent to go the distance.  Anything less than a National Championship should not be accepted.  It is a difficult thing to say that if you are not the best you didn’t have a successful year, but MSU is at the level that they should accept no less.  This is it.  Another Final Four banner would be nice, but it wouldn’t be enough.  Bringing a trophy back to East Lansing is what this team deserves, and I’m sure what the team expects.  If you want to be viewed as one of the best (and the program absolutely should) you need to have this level of expectation.  Accept no less.

The team should not look ahead past any opponent, but they should keep the hunger that got them this far.

Now Tom Izzo will never let a team of his sleepwalk through any game, but MSU can get away with that in any game this year, it may be this one.  They are that good.  Mid Tennessee will give it all they have, and may even keep it close at half.  MSU wins this one in convincing fashion.  My prediction: MSU 72 – MTSU 51
