Transfer Breakdown: Three Player Exchange
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Borussia Dortmund all exchanged their strikers with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Olivier Giroud, and Michy Batshuayi being the players involved.
Arsenal acquire Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth 56 million on a long-term deal. Arsenal have granted him the number 14 shirt worn famously by Thierry Henry. Aubameyang’s transfer out of Dortmund was very messy. Fans protested the player’s behavior during games with the message that no player is bigger than the club. Aubameyang has been involved in transfer talks over the past few seasons with many teams as he’s wanted to depart the club for some time.
Chelsea acquire Olivier Giroud from Arsenal for 18 million on a 18 month contract. Giroud’s departure has been coming for sometime as he’ll make way for Aubameyang. Giroud will come off the bench in service to starting striker Alvaro Morata. Giroud has been given the number 18 shirt.
Michy Batshuayi will go to Borussia Dortmund on loan. The loan deal won’t include a buy-in clause so Batshuayi will return to Chelsea at the end of the season. Dortmund weren’t willing to process the deal between the three clubs unless they got a player back in the deal to replace Aubameyang. Batshuayi will wear the number 44 shirt.
