Two years ago today, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul started the day with a van full of fireworks. He ended the day with at least one less finger.JPP

The shocking announcement two years ago that JPP had blown off parts of his right hand in a firework accident led to a multitude of breaking news stories across all networks and even in court rooms (JPP had a lawsuit against ESPN and Adam Schefter for invasion of privacy arising from the publication of medical records relating to the amputation procedure the case was settled).

JPP was thought to have lost everything after the accident, he was playing under the franchise tag in 2015 and did not have a long-term deal, causing him to lose millions of guaranteed dollars. He was able to play his way back however, a true redemption story, as this offseason he was able to secure a four-year $62 million contract.

It is worth giving Pierre-Paul credit, but he was the cause of his misfortune in the first place, so it goes to show the necessity of firework safety as we celebrate Independence Day in the United States today.
