Strengths:

  • Creates separation from defensive backs
  • Good route runner
  • High football IQ- great character
  • Good blocker
  • Good return skills kick and punt

Analysis: Tyler Lockett may be small physically, but he plays a lot larger than his frame and will give a team full effort every play.  Lockett is a great route runner that enables him to break away from defensive backs without having superstar speed.  He is willing to do the dirty work like block in the run game, or be a gunner on the punt team.  Lockett is a student of the game, and will do whatever he can to make himself successful.  He can come in day one and compete for kick and punt return duties.

Need to improve:

  • Small size
  • Hasn’t beaten press coverage
  • Does not have elite speed
  • Questionable hands

Analysis: Lockett is lucky if he is 175 pounds soaking wet, making some scouts wonder if he can be durable at the next level with his smallish figure.  He get re-routed with physical corners who jam receivers at the line.  Lockett will need to show consistent hands especially in traffic.  He will outwork most players in order to see playing time in the NFL.

Round prediction: 4
