Martin, 37, is in his fourth season with USC. Since 2014, he also had served as passing game coordinator. Many might remember Martin from his days as QB for the Tennessee Volunteers. He backed up Peyton Manning in Knoxville, and took over the starting job in 1998, leading the Vols to a 13-0 record and their first National Championship since 1951.

Helton speaks very highly of Martin saying, “I am fortunate to have been around many good coaches throughout my career, but I have never been around a coach quite as complete as Tee Martin, he has a unique ability to lead, organize, recruit, teach, game plan and call plays. In the second half of this season, Tee took on a greater coordinating role in game planning and play calling and I was very impressed with the job he did. I am beyond confident in his ability to lead our offense to new heights.”

After USC lost to Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship game, Helton fired four coaches including defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox. He has stated his desire to fill out his coaching staff by the middle of January.

USC takes on Wisconsin Dec. 30 in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. The Trojans enter the game averaging 34.9 points per game and 449.6 yards per contest. Stay tuned to MFST for our bowl preview and prediction.
