Veteran NFL Players that could be traded tonight
The NFL Draft is full of trades, though not usually involving veteran players, but that could change tonight. The trade market for those veterans are heating up after Round 1 concluded. There could be a multitude of reasons for a trade, teams didn’t get a guy they wanted/targeted and are now looking for a safer play than what a rookie outside of Round 1 would bring them. Or a team that drafted a certain position might have a veteran who is no longer valuable to them with their new shiny toy selected yesterday. Whatever the reason is, here are some veterans that could be moved tonight.
Ronald Leary-OG-Dallas Cowboys
Leary was benched last season in favor then-rookie La’el Collins and offers little to the Cowboys besides added depth. Given Leary’s experience as a starter in Dallas, he offers a fair amount of value to teams looking to upgrade their offensive line. Stephen Jones said that Leary would “obviously” like to go somewhere that offers him a chance at a starting job, something that doesn’t exist in Dallas with Collins and Zach Martin locked into the first team, and that the Cowboys are open to making a move “if we got what we thought was fair” in return.
What they could expect: Late Round pick, or added in with a package to trade up, say in the 2nd round as I outlined here.
Nick Foles-QB-LA Rams
The Rams gave up a haul to acquire Jared Goff No.1 overall and now Foles is 3rd on the depth chart behind Goff and Case Keenum. A team looking for a decent backup quarterback could look to add Foles, but he does not own much value on the trade or open market.
What they could expect: Late Round pick
Knile Davis-RB-Kansas City Chiefs
Rumors were surfacing that the Chiefs might part ways with Jamal Charles via the trade market, but that remains doubtful. However, Knile Davis is the more likely candidate to be moved. Even when Charles went down with a knee injury last season, it was Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware who saw the bulk of the time in the backfield for the Chiefs. Davis has fallen out of favor and a team looking for RB depth could pull the trigger on Davis.
What they could expect: Swap for player with similar talent, or a Day 3 pick
Who is NOT being moved
Colin Kaepernick– Sorry 49er fans, it’s not happening…especially after the Broncos moved up to grab Paxton Lynch.
Joe Thomas– He is the one source of talent the Browns have, no way they give that up…especially with fragile RG3 under center.
Muhammad Wilkerson– The Jets own one of the most impressive defenses in the NFL and their d-line could be the best in the league. They NEED Wilkerson.
