Vikings “Revenge” Recap and Review
For starters Ubbe and Margrethe got married despite Hvitserk being “in love” with her. On the wedding night Ubbe, Hvitserk, and Margrethe proceeded to have a threesome. On Instagram I saw a comment that said “they’re just having fun and it’s just sex.” In response to that I’d say that yeah it’s just sex but there’s going to be a big problem when and if she gets pregnant. It really bothers me that they’re family too, they all agreed to it but it’s strange.
During a sacrifice both Lagertha and Torvi realize that Bjorn is missing as well as Astrid. At that moment nothing was said but it can be assumed that both women knew what was occurring. Again more cheating and amongst family. How are Lagertha and Torvi not going to do anything? It just really bothers me that everyone is sleeping with each other and it’s family. These triangles are going to get messy, something the show doesn’t need.
In Wessex, Aethelwulf finally confronted his father, King Ecbert about how he felt. This was a scene that I was looking forward to but the director failed to really capture the characters feelings and the tone. The actors did a fabulous job, they have a good dynamic about them but the directing wasn’t right.
After episodes of anticipation the greatest battle and the Great Army was finally among us. But we were cut short when all we got were the shocked faces of the english men and the vikings’ blood thirsty faces. It seems like a joke but it isn’t that’s all that was shown. The next scene was all of Ragnar’s sons and Floki dragging around King Aelle. King Aelle is then submitted to the blood eagle which was done by Bjorn. This was made a big deal so we could get absolutely nothing. It’s ridiculous I’m still in shock that they did such a thing. Tv shows don’t always have the budget to do certain scenes and I think that’s what happened with Vikings. But they could have done”camera magic” to show something at least. Not only that but this was supposed to be a battle for Ragnar, one of the most loved characters on the show. Yes, they killed King Aelle but where was the battle, something honored by vikings. Again I can’t blame the actors they do an amazing job. I also felt that King Aelle’s death was meant to be meaningful but it seemed off just like the scene with Aethelwulf.
The episode was a great disappointment and in general I’m not sure where the show is going with its characters. I feel like there’s so much going on and it’s not the same. I am certain it’s not easy being a writer and or a director but they need to work hard because Vikings lost a lot of their viewers after the death of Ragnar. I hope that the show is only going through a rough patch, maybe they’re trying to get things in order at the moment.
What are your thoughts on this weeks episode? Do you think the show will get better or worse?
