Fantastic news has been released today regarding the next installment to the current DCEU. Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. has hired screenwriters David Goyer and Justin Rhodes for the Green Lantern Corps film. In a week of ups and downs for the DCEU, especially when it comes to Ben Affleck and the Batman film, it is good to get some exciting and positive news. The DCEU seems to be full steam ahead and they show no signs of slowing down. Earlier this week, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson met with the studio and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns regarding his role as Black Adamn in the Shazam film. Ever since Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, Justice League) released the photo showing #UniteTheSeven, fans have wondered who the seventh member would be. When the casting was announced for Justice League there was no mention of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, or even Martian Manhunter. The current roster is made up Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).

Fans have been begging for Green Lantern news and today that was finally answered. The last time we saw the Green Lantern was in 2011 when Ryan Reynolds played the space hero, Hal Jordan. That movie was a complete box-office failure and delayed the launch of the DCEU, Man of Steel would eventually launch the franchise, and rightfully so since Superman is the granddaddy of all Superheroes. The role was so disastrous for Reynolds that he even took cheap shots at in his 2016 Deadpool film, letting fans know he did not approve of the all CGI outfit he wore. There is no doubt in my mind that Reynolds will not be asked to come back. During filming for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,  actor Dan Amboyer trolled fans constantly about who his role might be in the film. Fans ran to message boards and social media to speculate that he would be playing Hal Jordan, turns out he played a no one. The studio did not reveal any further details about the film other than it will be a ‘Lethal Weapon’ in space. The film will see Hal Jordan and John Stewart team up in what is sure to be a fanboys dream. Now we get the best of both worlds and fans of Hal and fans of John can be happy.

David Goyer is no stranger to writing comic book films. Goyer has written and directed the Blade films, he also wrote Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel, and co-wrote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Goyer will not only write the Green Lantern film, he will also produce. This news might not set well with some fans and the hire has even caused some negative feed back but it is still way to early to judge. I think Man of Steel is one of the best comic book movies ever written and Christopher Nolan trusted him enough to hire him as a writer for the Dark Knight trilogy. Goyer has a long standing relationship with Warner Bros. and is currently working on the television spin off to Man of Steel, Krypton. Whether you love the DCEU or you hate it, there is no denying that Warner Bros. is all in and they are pushing forward aggressively. Wonder Woman and Justice League will open this year and James Wan’s Aquaman will be going into production very soon.  If all the chips fall into place then the solo Batman film will begin production this year as well.
