Week 3 NFL Picks
Our NFL Picks will be a weekly column, where our writers choose the winner of four games including one which will be an upset pick.
The Picks will be tracked and we will crown a champion at the end of the season. Writer’s Dan Schalk and James Kiblin will pick the games and battle it out this season.
Through two weeks of the season Dan sits at 6-2, while Jim is falling behind 3-5. Luckily for Jim, it’s only week three.
1. Dallas over St. Louis 28-24
The Cowboys looked like a different team in week two compared to week one, as their defense shut down the Titans run game and made Jake Locker look mediocre at best. If the Cowboys can stick to the running game, I can see Murray opening up Romo and the passing game against the Rams weak secondary (The Rams front seven could be the best in the NFL). If the Cowboys can pressure third string quarterback Austin Davis and throw him off of his progressions then the Cowboys should walk away with a W.
2. San Diego over Buffalo 28-17
The Bills have been one of many surprise 2-0 teams to start 2014. Their undefeated season will come to an end in week three. I expect Philip Rivers to pick apart the Buffalo secondary similar to how he shredded the “Legion of Boom” at home in week two. I am a little wary of San Diego traveling to Buffalo and making this week three contest a “trap” game for the Chargers.
3. Indianapolis over Jacksonville 31-21
Andrew Luck had never lost two games in a row before last week. I can’t imagine Luck going 0-3 and that third loss coming to the helpless Jaguars team. This game will be close in the first half, then the Colts should start to pull away.
Upset Pick of the Week:
New York Giants over Houston 21-17
The Giants haven’t looked cohesive on offense, and the Texans look fantastic on defense. So why would I pick this game? Gut. I don’t see Ryan Fitzpatrick being a 3-0 quarterback and I think Eli can put it together for a game and sneak out a W. Maybe then Eli will remind me why I had him as a sleeper coming into 2014.
Bengals over Titans 20-10
Bengals look like the most complete team right now in the NFL, I cannot see them slowing down this week. Bengals roll 20-10.
Browns over Baltimore 13-10
Browns commit the fewest turnovers in the league, and their QB is playing for his job. Baltimore is still figuring out what they actually are and what they have. Browns sneak out the victory in a defensive game.
Patriots over Raiders 30- 7
Patriots started to roll on all cylinders last week. Everyone seems to be finding their groove with the Pats and I believe they keep their foot on the gas pedal. The Raiders young QB Derek Carr will have to throw it past the Pats’ studded corners.
