Week 5 NFL Picks
Our NFL Picks will be a weekly column, where our writers choose the winner of four games including one which will be an upset pick.
The Picks will be tracked and we will crown a champion at the end of the season. Writer’s Dan Schalk and James Kiblin will pick the games and battle it out this season.
Through the first four weeks of the NFL season, Dan has started hot at 14-2, while Jim is coming off a solid week picking three correct games as he stands at 8-8.
Lions over Bills 31-14
I do not agree with the Bills decision to bench EJ Manuel for a 31 year old quarterback with a track record that screams mediocrity. I think the Lions win in all three phases of the game en route to an easy win for Motown.
Saints over Buccaneers 42-21
The Saints will be a team on a mission Sunday after being embarrassed by the Cowboys on National TV last week. It also doesn’t hurt that the Saints never lose at home, so I look for this to be a blowout high scoring game.
Seahawks over Redskins 28-10
Coming off of a bye week, Seattle will look to punish the inexperienced quarterback Kirk Cousins. The Seahawks will continue to show everyone in the NFL they are the number one team by beating Washington easily.
Upset Pick of the Week:
Jets over Chargers 24-21
The Chargers have won three in a row and are coming home to play a reeling Jets team that only has one win. Most would pick San Diego. I however, believe this is the type of game Rivers likes to lose, and Rex Ryan would win. Look for the Jets to control the clock with an effective run game and smothering defense.
Chiefs over 49ers 24-21
The Chiefs are riding a wave of emotion after embarrassing the Patriots on Monday Night football. Jamal Charles looks healthy, and is playing like his old self. Chiefs come away with the W in a tight game.
Giants over Falcons 24-10
Eli looked he found his groove last week, throwing the ball confidently all over the field against Washington. I feel the G-Men will build on that, and grind out a win against a tough Atlanta squad.
Cowboys over Texans 31-14
Cowboys use this game as a another statement game to the NFL. Romo and company should have a big day offensively against a solid Houston defense.
Upset Pick of the Week:
Tennessee over Browns 14-10
I feel Tennessee could surprise the Browns and take this one in a low scoring affair. Browns I believe are looking past this game, as they collide with division rival Pittsburgh next week at home. Look for a healthy Jake Locker to make a few more plays than Brian Hoyer.
