What to watch before Batman V Superman
Possible spoilers for Batman v Superman!
With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice right around the corner the excitement builds. To control the excitement here is a list of five key films that you can watch before Batman v Superman in anticipation of the film. In no particular order:
Justice League War
As Batman v Superman is looking more and more like an origin story for the Justice League, ‘Dawn of Justice’, it would be a good idea to get familiar with the Justice League as well as characters such as Cyborg. In the film we watch as the world’s greatest heroes work together to stop the invasion of Darkseid. With the possible inclusion of Darkseid in Batman v Superman this film is ideal to get to know how much of a threat he really is. You could also watch the sequel Justice League: Throne of Atlantis to get to know the character of Aquaman.
Dark Knight Trilogy
If you haven’t seen these films yet have you been living under a rock for the past 10 years? If you haven’t seen them yet then I assume you aren’t the biggest Batman fan in the world and may not be to familiar with the character, if this is the case then you definitely need to watch these films! And for everyone else who has already seen the films why not watch them again in the build up to Batman v Superman, I can’t keep count of how many times I’ve watched the films. Lets hope Ben Affleck can fill Christian Bale’s bat-shoes 😉
With the second trailer spoiling that we are going to see Doomsday, Superman: Doomsday is a great film to watch to see how powerful Doomsday really is. It also gives us an idea of how tough it is going to be for our heroes as they team up to defeat someone who can match Superman’s strength. I don’t want to say too much about this film as I don’t want to spoil it, so just go watch it!
Man of Steel
I know this isn’t the most loved film, I wouldn’t say I hate it but I certainly don’t love it. Anyway as Man of Steel is the first film in DC’s attempt to make a cinematic universe and Batman v Superman follows up on the events of Man of Steel it’s a great idea to give it a re-watch to familiarise yourself with the universe. If you’ve never seen Man of Steel it’s a must watch before you go to see Batman v Superman, it will add context to why Batman would choose to pick a fight with Superman. If you are going to watch only one of the films on this list then it has to be Man of Steel purely because it takes part in the same universe as Batman v Superman.
The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 & 2
This would answer all your questions on how Batman could fight Superman. These two films show what is possibly the best fight between the two heroes. It is immensely enjoyable and a must watch! It is possibly my favorite Batman story of all time.
If that’s not enough to keep you busy until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice then here’s some more:
- Batman: Under the Red Hod
- Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
- Batman: Year One
- Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
- Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
- Justice League: Doom
- Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox
