What to watch before Captain America: Civil War
What to Watch before Captain America: Civil War.
Now with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice released in cinemas, we can start looking forward to the next comic book movie which is Captain America: Civil War.
Here is a list of the films you should watch before sitting down in a theatre to watch the Avengers clash:
Captain America: The First Avengers and Captain America: Winter Soldier
See how it all started. In The First Avengers, watch Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans) turn from a scrawny nobody into the super-soldier, Captain America. As he becomes an established hero in World War II fighting with his lifelong friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) against the evil forces of Hydra, led by the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). This film represents what Steve Rodgers stands for and who the character really is. It is very important you watch this film before you go to see Civil War.
Captain America: Winter Soldier. Arguably the best Marvel movie. Steve Rodgers is met with the same threat of Hydra again but this time in modern-day. He has to face a new foe, the Winter Soldier also known as Bucky Barnes! The film will further develop his friendship with Bucky as it shows what he would do to keep him safe. As well as to why Captain America wouldn’t be to keen on working with the government in Civil War. Black Widow (Scarlett Johanssan) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) both have main parts to play in this film.
These films are a must watch for the growth of the Steve Rodgers as a character.
Iron Man 1, 2 and 3
These three films are a must watch as it will give you an understanding of the opposing side to Captain America in Civil War. Watch Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) go from billionaire playboy to one of the world’s greatest protector. Tony is going to be a main character in Civil War so it’s a must to see what type of man Tony Stark is.
The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron
Witness the Avengers all come together on the big screen for the first time. See the team take on Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the Chitauri. See how the team interact with each other including the early conflict between Tony and Steve which is one of the main focus of Civil War.
Watch the Avengers come together for the second time in Age of Ultron, where they face world extinction from a menacing robot named Ultron (James Spader). In this film we are introduced to Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). In this film you get to see the conflict again between Tony and Steve. The events of this film can be directly linked to Civil War. It’s not a great movie but it is definitely a must watch before Civil War.
These two films are key to watch as it will show the friendship between the Avengers before they all end up on opposite sides in Civil War. It almost covers each character that is will appear in Civil War.
I know what you’re thinking…but wait until you see our next movie suggestion! The reason for why you should watch this film is because Ant-man (Paul Rudd) has a part to play in Civil War as much as the already well-established Avengers. He is one of the few characters that we haven’t seen in any other Marvel film and you should watch the film to get a better understanding of who the character is, in his own origin story.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Before you dismiss this strange suggestion hear me out. Batman v Superman was the first time we saw two heroes fight each other because of their difference of opinions, something we will be seeing in Civil War. Personally, I do not think it’s a good film, but it shows us what we can expect when Iron Man and Captain America fight each other. The two films won’t be to similar, I assume, but it would be interesting to compare the two films.
If this isn’t enough for you then you could read some Civil War comics as this film is very much that story. Or you could watch every Marvel film again.
