The story of Carmelo Anthony has been one of ups and downs.

Whether it was developing into a star player in high school but letting his grades and class attendance slip, or beating LeBron James in a game in high school. Melo is used to being in the spotlight.

He led Syracuse to their first National Championship as a freshman. He then entered the NBA draft in one of the greatest classes ever. He joined LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Darko Milicic as the top-5 picks.

He became one of the greatest scorers in the NBA but was never really put on a great team. He developed a reputation for not being a playoff player as the Nuggets made the playoffs in his first seven years, but lost 6 of those 7 years in the first round.

That reputation followed him to New York, as the Knicks made the playoffs his first three seasons there. They did not get past the first round in two of those three seasons.

After missing the playoffs four consecutive seasons, Melo moved on to the Thunder, where once again he was on a team that couldn’t make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

After being traded to the Hawks, then going to the Rockets, then traded to the Bulls, where he is expected to be released, the next question is, where does Carmelo go?

There are two popular ideas as to where Melo may land next. Both of these options go back to his 2003 draft class.

One thought is that the Miami Heat would try to bring him in and pair him up with Dwyane Wade in his last season.

The other, more popular thought, is that he would get picked up by the Lakers. This would pair him with one of his other best friends in LeBron.

Both teams have chances at the playoffs. The Heat are currently the 7th seed in the East and the Lakers are the 9th seed in the West.

Bringing Carmelo into either of those situations could improve those teams. Bringing him in could also ruin their chemistry and keep them out of the playoffs.

One option that isn’t being talked about as much, is Carmelo going and playing in China. He could become a whole new player over there. He would be able to be the go-to option with hardly any consequences. He could become bigger than Stephon Marbury is.

Plenty of players have been able to etch out a great career in the Chinese League, and Melo could be the greatest out of all of them.

Only time will tell what will happen with the rest of Melo’s career, but one thing is for certain, Melo can still be an effective player and scorer if he can just accept the role that a team gives him.
