Justice League Trailer

When I saw the first trailer for The Justice League, I was…underwhelmed. Sure, it had my favorite hero Wonder Woman. It had some funny one-liners and introduced us to the team. But it was also dark. Really dark. Not just visually, but tonally. The whole trailer spent its time focused on the huge amount of CGI was going to be used in the film. And the on the nose use of “Come Together” as the song? I cringed as I thought about how yet another DC film was going to get it wrong. (Wonder Woman of course not included.) I’ll let you see for yourself here:

Now let’s take a look at Justice League Trailer #2 released at Comic Con.

It’s clear Joss Whedon (or at least DC’s marketing team) got the hint about audiences embracing a message of hope. Wonder Woman was featured prominently throughout the trailer. It almost felt a bit like she would be the highlight of the movie. While I’m sure that’s not the case, it looks like she’s going to have a bigger role than first anticipated. The camaraderie of the League was emphasized with scenes and dialogue focused on changing things. Hope. Finding the best in people. This is a decidedly different tone from the first one. The CGI was there, but minimized to focus more on the story. How much has Joss Whedon changed Zack Snyder’s vision for Justice League? He has now been given a Co-Director credit.

My expectations for this movie have increased exponentially since this new trailer. Does DC finally have a shot at changing the course of their films? I think so. Now we’ll have to wait and see.
