Will the Falcons win the NFC South?
The Atlanta Falcons have started the regular season with a 2-0 record. They look impressive under new head coach Dan Quinn. The offense seems to be clicking on all levels and the defense is playing a lot better than they did the last couple of seasons. Besides the hiring of a new coach and signing Julio Jones, the Falcons had a relatively quiet offseason. They had fans anxiously waiting to see how the team will look under a new coach and new system.
The Falcons opened the season on a Monday Night against the Philadelphia Eagles. They played an amazing first half. The offense played great, but the biggest surprise was the Falcons defense. The defense was swarming and making outstanding defensive stops. It was not something Falcons fans were used to. The first half definitely had fans everywhere thinking the Falcons might actually be good this season. Even though the Eagles made it into a game second half, the Falcons managed to win the game 26-24.
The Falcons went on to face the New York Giants in game two. They trailed at the half, but did play a good first half. Second half was really the test to see how Dan Quinn rallied his team to come out and win the game. The defense came out aggressive and veteran, Kroy Biermann, made two important big plays that really gave the Falcons momentum to go on to win the game 24-20.
The Falcons are off to a good start, and they look like they will be consistent throughout the season and continue to play hard and aggressive. Julio Jones and Matt Ryan must continue to do what they have been doing, the defense must fight hard all four quarters, and the run game is slowly coming together. If the Falcons continue to play this way, they will win the NFC South. The Saints do not look like themselves, and the Buccaneers still have a lot to prove. The Carolina Panthers are the Falcons biggest competition in the NFC South, but in the end, the Falcons will be headed to the playoffs.
