Match Preview and Predictions
Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin
The first match of the pre-show is between Ziggler and Corbin. Corbin won at Extreme Rules in a no DQ match and lost to Ziggler by DQ in their last match, so Corbin doesn’t have any sort of respect for Ziggler and will go out of his way to make him punish.
Corbin seems to be getting a push here by the company, but with Ziggler losing two in a row with DQ, it could give him a good chance to win this match at Money in the Bank. Ziggler hasn’t had a good push in a long time and while Corbin did after winning the Andre the Giant Battle Royal at Wrestlemania, they could be looking to even the score here.
Ziggler wins by pinfall.
Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus
Apollo Crews is another young guy from NXT who has been brought up to the main stage of RAW and has impressed with his in-ring skills. Sheamus has been lost ever since the League of Nations broke up and he set his eyes on Crews.
Crews has yet to showcase his skills in a pay-per-view event and will be able to impress with a big win over Sheamus in his debut match in a PPV. I don’t know what the WWE has planned for either of these guys after this match, if they will make this a bigger rivalry or just end it after this match, but the build up for this match has been weak, so it is understandable if they end it after Money in the Bank.
Crews wins by pinfall.
Rusev (c) vs. Titus O’Neil for the US Championshp
On Smackdown last month, Rusev defeated Kalisto in a match to retain the championship. O’Neil came out to help Kalisto when Rusev refused to get out of the Accolade submission. On Raw the next night O’Neil came out and confronted Rusev and the match was announced a week later.
O’Neil is coming off a suspension, not for what you think though. He was suspended for 60 days for “unprofessional conduct.” What did he do? During the Daniel Bryan retirement show of RAW, Titus grabbed Vince by the arm in a playful manner and Vince shoved O’Neil away and jokingly threw his arms up and laughed at him. Apparently Vince was upset the way he was grabbed by Titus and suspended him.
Now with Titus back and already getting a shot at the US title, it appears that Vince is over the incident and is giving O’Neil a shot to move up to the mid-card. Sadly, he won’t win the match. Rusev is a good US champion since he isn’t from the country and he can use that as a huge heel point and get fans angry. Rusev is also better with a title around his waist because without it he hasn’t seemed to do much.
Rusev wins by submission.
Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs. Natalya and Becky Lynch
At Extreme Rules Charlotte defeated Natalya thanks to Dana Brooke who dressed up as Ric Flair. Natalya wanted her revenge and took on Brooke, and even though Natalya would win, it would be by DQ. Brooke and Natalya finally had a clean match and Brooke won. Becky Lynch came out to help Natalya after the loss.
On the June 2 Smackdown Lynch defeated Charlotte by DQ thanks to Brooke again. The next week Lynch took on Brooke and won and four days later the tag team match was announced between the two.
With Ric Flair now out of Charlotte’s corner it was nice to see her be by herself, but Dana Brooke is just another person to help her cheat and win, which can get old after a while. Charlotte has yet to lose that title and while this isn’t a title match, I don’t see them making the champion look weak, so Brooke and Charlotte will win, but expect a foot under the rope not to be seen or something illegal to happen and those two get away with it.
Charlotte and Dana Brooke win by pinfall.
The New Day (c) vs. Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillians vs. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows for the Tag Team Championship
Another tag team match on the card, but this one is for the titles and involves four teams instead of two. This one all started back at Payback, where the Vaudevillians took on Enzo Amore and Big Cass for the number one contender for the tag team championship, but the match would end in a no contest when Amore suffered a concussion. The Vaudevillians would get their shot at the titles and lose at Extreme Rules.
During Raw the Vaudevillains took on The New Day again, but this time Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson came out and attacked the champs. The next week on RAW, the Vaudevillians defeated Enzo Amore and Big Cass by DQ and later in the same night, Gallows and Anderson beat The New Day. Teddy Long had the idea of giving those three teams a shot at the titles and Stephanie McMahon scheduled the match to take place.
This one could go either way. The Vaudevillians won’t win as they don’t seem like a team what can be championship material just yet. Gallows and Anderson do have a chance as AJ Style could say how he has the best two people in his club, but I don’t see them winning a title until Styles does.
This leaves it between New Day and Amore and Cass. Both are fan favorites and would be good champions. Amore and Cass do have what it takes to lead the tag team division, but I don’t think that time will be just now. I think New Day will continue the winning streak and walk out of MITB still as the champions
New Day wins by pinfall.
John Cena vs AJ Styles
This is a dream match for some people. Cena vs Styles, the face of the WWE vs. the former face of TNA. Both are older, but still can compete at a very high level and deliver great matches.
This all started when John Cena returned to RAW after injuring his shoulder that knocked him out for five months. Styles came out to welcome him back, then Gallows and Anderson came out to announce that ‘The Club’ was back and were looking for a fight. Cena and Styles were about to team up and take them on, until Styles turned on Cena and attacked him, turning heel in the process.
Four days after the attack, the match between the two was announced. On June 13 for RAW, Cena gave Styles two contracts to pick from for their match, one allowing Gallows and Anderson to be in his corner, the other banning them so they could fight uninterrupted. Styles chose to ban them from the match.
This will be a great match now that ‘The Club’ won’t interrupt it. There is no title on the line so this match is more unpredictable. Either person could win this match. If Cena wins he takes down a legend in the wrestling business. If Styles wins, he takes down the face of the WWE and makes himself known in the company. I really doubt this rivalry will end with just one match. This could end with a third fight at Summerslam with each of them winning a match before hand. Overall, I see Cena taking round one.
John Cena wins by pinfall.
The match that is the name for the PPV is finally up. All of these men have what it takes to be a WWE champion. Owens and Zayn are young, fresh faces. Jericho and Del Rio are former champions and Ambrose and Cesaro are trying to make their way up to the top. With that process we can somewhat play the game of elimination.
Jericho won’t win because he already has won many times and doesn’t need another title to show what he has done in his career. Add in that he is a part-time wrestler, so giving him a shot now wouldn’t be worth it.
Del Rio is trying to make his way back to the top after coming back to the company. He could win this match, but I don’t think they will give him that push soon.
Zayn hasn’t been on the main card enough yet to get pushed to the top. While he is a great wrestler, he needs more time in the midcard to develop more as a wrestler and with the brand splitting coming in July, he could get that push.
Cesaro is becoming a fan favorite and is another wrestler that doesn’t seem to have that top card material just yet. He has been getting a good push lately, and like Zayn, the brand split could move him up instead of being log jammed in the mid card.
Owens and Ambrose are my top two people to win this match. Owens has been getting pushed since beating John Cena and he is a top card fighter right now. He has the mic skills and skills in the ring to be a great champion.
Ambrose is my number one choice to win this match. With Rollins or Reigns winning the title, Ambrose having the briefcase and hanging it over the head of either one would be interesting. Rollins vs Ambrose, former teammates and now rivals go head to head. Reigns vs Ambrose, teammates and good friends battle again for the title. I think what could happen is Rollins or Reigns would get another shot at the title, then Ambrose would use the contract and make the match a triple threat match between the former shield members.
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE championship
These two are at it again. When Seth Rollins was forced to vacate the championship due to his injury last year, Reigns took the opportunity and won the title. Now Rollins is back and is hungry to get back what was once his. Rollins made his return at Extreme Rules after Reigns beat Styles, attacking the champ and sending a message to him.
Rollins was allowed to get a title shot the next night on RAW by Shane McMahon. Some people are questioning the decision because this was the chance to have Reigns turn heel and Rollins come back a babyface— but WWE kept Rollins as a heel. Fans still aren’t happy and cheer Rollins over Reigns.
This match will be good and clean. No outside interference anymore for Rollins which will be nice to see and Rollins can show off his in-ring skill without any help from the outside.
Reigns is not going to lose this match though. While Rollins would be a good champion and he was back then, Reigns is becoming the new face of the company for when Cena retires and he needs to look strong and powerful with a win over Rollins in this match. This rivalry will continue for months and be something to watch for the rest of 2016.
Reigns wins by pinfall.
