Yan Gomes to return this weekend for the Indians
The Cleveland Indians will get a much needed boost this Memorial Day weekend, as catcher Yan Gomes is set to be activated off the 15-day DL. Gomes was originally slated to miss 6-8 weeks after spraining his MCL in his right knee on April 11th, so he right on pace to return.
The Indians have struggled mightily without him, the catcher position is batting below .200 since he has been injured, worst in the AL. After bursting onto the scene last season, batting .278 with 21 HR and 74 RBI, Gomes is looking to give the Indians anemic lineup a boost, but more importantly, he is a rock behind the plate.
The Indians stand at 16-23, nine games back from the division leading Detroit Tigers. Larger deficits have been overcome, but Cleveland needs to put a streak together soon. Currently riding a two-game high, the Indians host the struggling Cincinnati Reds for a weekend series, and will welcome back Gomes for the finale on Sunday. With Kluber on fire and the pitching staff starting to gel, look out if the Indians can get their bats working to make a push in the difficult AL Central.
Do the Indians have a chance to comeback in the AL Central? Let me know in the comments below.
