MLB.com has announced their top 100 list of this year’s prospects, and this year the Yankees have landed three of their own. Their list consists of SS Jorge Mateo who checks in at No. 30, directly followed by the towering RF Aaron Judge at No. 31, and finally to round out the list is C Gary Sanchez checking in at No. 59, and would have seen Severino join that, if he had not lost his eligibility this past season.

With the Yankees looking to add youth and develop their farm, rather than packaging them together and blowing up the farm for a short-term fix. And thus so far, the Yankees have successfully done so making several upgrades, while keeping their top 10 prospects intact and not spending a penny in free agency.

Jorge Mateo, just 20-years-old comes in at No. 30, and is most notably known for his plus speed, as he stole 82 bags in A-ball and High-A this past season. Mateo’s speed also helps with his defense, as his quick feet allows him to cover a lot of ground and showing his range which is needed for his average arm. Mateo lacks power, but can use his speed to his advantage to beat out infield hits, as well as bunts. With Gregorius and Castro both 25, New York can take their time with Mateo and develop him without rushing him.

RF Aaron Judge
Age: 20 Highest Level: Triple-A 2015 Stats .255 20 HR 72 RBI 7SB

Judge, a 6’7″ 275 lb. beast has huge raw power and has 30-home run potential written all over him. With the OF being an area of strength for the Yankees, and with Carlos Beltran holding down the position in Right Field; look for Judge to make a bigger impact down the season-most likely as a September call-up and in the 2017 season once Beltran’s contract is up, the position will become Judge’s to own.

C Gary Sanchez
Age: 23 Highest Level: MLB (2 games-2AB) 2015 Stats (Triple-A) .274 18 HR 62 RBI 7SB

Gary Sanchez, who seems to have been the Yankees top prospect for years, looked to have finally put it together having one his best all around seasons in Triple-A. Sanchez was even called up, brought along to be the third catcher behind Brian McCann and recently traded, John Ryan Murphy. And now with Murphy gone, Sanchez has the chance to impress the Yankees brass and claim the back up position, closer leaning towards taking the reins from McCann once his contract is up. Until then, expect Sanchez to take on a similar role of Murphy.
