With free agents Patrick Corbin, and Nathan Eovaldi signing larger-than-expected deals with the Washington Nationals and Boston Redsox respectively, the New York Yankees could pivot from the big name free agents and target lower, under-the-radar guys to stabilize the rotation. Lets take a look at the three guys who won’t financially burden the yankees:

Charlie Morton (35)

Although Morton is up there in age, 35, he posted the best numbers of his career going 15-3, with a 3.13 ERA and 1.16 WHIP and being named to his his All-Star game. Aside from Morton’s age, he is a top free agent option on a short term deal to produce similar numbers. Could a deal based off former-Yankee Hiroki Kuroda get the job done?

Contract Prediction if signs with Yankees: 1-year, $16.5 million

Gio Gonzalez (33)

As recent as the 2017 season, Gio Gonzalez posted a 2.96 ERA, across 201 innings. Although he struggled with the Washington Nationals, they shipped him to Milwaukee where he benefited from his change of scenery and posted a 2.13 ERA in 5 starts. Would a deal similar to CC Sabathia’s get a job done, and bring in the 33-year old southpaw?

Contract Prediction if signs with Yankees: 1-year, $10 million

Trevor Cahill (31*)
Trevor Cahill enjoyed a breakout year for the Oakland A’s, he went 7-4, along with with a 3.76 ERA across 110 innings, making 20 starts. If he could remains healthy, could turn into a younger Rich Hill, J.A. Happ type pitcher? And if Cahill struggles to stick in the rotation, a turn to the bullpen as he’s done in the past could be an option as well.

Contract Prediction if signs with Yankees: 2-years, $13 million
